More reasons for National pride
18.07.2012

Ivet Lalova won gold at the European championship of track-and-field athletics in Helsinki , becoming the first Bulgarian European champion in 100 meters. This amazing accomplishment of hers is one more reason for national pride.

This is the greatest achievement in the sprinter’s career, as well as the first European championship short sprint award in the history of Bulgaria.

Ivet started in the fourth lane and run it in a time of 11 seconds and 28 hundredths scoring the best time of the season in Europe with the incredible 11.06 seconds. Then she won the semifinal series with 11.23 seconds. Olesya Povh (Ukraine) was placed second with 11.32 seconds and Lena Grinchikayte (Lithuania) remained third also with 11.32 seconds.

Lalova said that this was a title which she had dreamed of for years. Ceaseless training, hard work and indomitable will are key to the success of the a true champion.

This is a 36th medal for Bulgaria in the European Athletics Championships and the first gold for the last 6 years.
Congratulations on her success. We are proud of her!

The past 2011 year was declared the year of Bulgarian cinema. We may say it was emblematic for the revival of the Bulgarian cinematic art – the  full-length and short films, as well as the series. We have recently witnessed really quality made Bulgarian films, proved by not only the multiple Bulgarian and international awards, but also the high interest of the audience. Statistics from the last year shows that Bulgarian movies were seen by over 660 000 viewers. За first time after the transition 10 new Bulgarian films went out in our cinemas in 2011. The main success is due to the films- "TILT" by Viktor Chichkov-son ,"Love.net" by Iliyan Dzhevelekov , "Operation "Shmenti Capelli" by Ivan Mitov and Vladislav Karamfilov – Vladi Vargala, “Shelter” by Dragomir Sholev, “Sneakers” by Ivan Vladimirov and Valeri Yordanov. 2012 also had a promising start with several awards received by Konstantin Bozhanov’s film “Аvе” . We may hope that the success of Bulgarian cinema will continue in this year as well.

Bulgarian sport has recently given us many opportunities for national pride. Once again Bulgaria has its golden girls in gymnastics! Reneta Kamberova, Mihaela Maevska, Tsvetelina Naydenova, Elena Todorova, Christina Todorova and Katrin Velkova- these are the names of the Bulgarian ensemble. The competition in Montpellier became the most successful world championships for Bulgaria in the last years with the five medals- one gold and four bronze of the ensemble and Silvia Mitevа. Thus the gentle graces of gymnastics demonstrated not only to the Bulgarian but also to the international audience how persistence, fighting spirit, many deprivations and team work lead to grandiose success.21-year old Reneta Kamberova says -"Iliyana believed in us at a time when absolutely noone else did... The beginning was very hard because we are a new team and we didn’t know each other. There really was a lot of negative criticism – against us and against her. We were attacked for not being good enough to be a national team. That is why we are very grateful to her for believing in us and letting absolutely nothing discourage her from working seriously with us
